Travel Purpose: leisure
Positive: The view from the living room was beautiful, and the proximity to Mendocino was very convenient. The neighborhood seemed very safe and the area was quiet and peaceful.
Negative: The coded entry box malfunctioned on night 3 and locked us out. We luckily left a back door unlocked because the house is old and the locks are difficult. The floor plan is quirky, with chopped up wasted space. There was no closet, or even a hook, for hanging coats and hats. Someone had been "smoking" on the lowest floor. That floor reeked of the smell. We tried to air it out, but it needs to be sanitized. There was limited space to unpack on the top floor and only 2 hangers in the closet. The living room sofa cushions are lumpy from use and uncomfortable. The beds could use toppers to make them softer. There was no hairdryer, and so we had to buy one. The light bulbs are all the lowest wattage possible, especially over the downstairs vanity= annoying. Kitchen- The door to the soap dispenser is broken. Although this house could sleep like 7 or 8 people, the flimsy flatware contained only 4 dinner forks, 2 steak knives, etc.. . . simply not enough flatware to utilize the dishwasher. No cheese grater. Relatively small TV monitors. Be aware, the long narrow, steep driveway leads to a small space where it is difficult to turn around if you are using 2 cars for your group. This rental home is managed by a company that is focused on maximizing profits by monetizing every moment of your stay. There is no flexibility for arriving or departing 5 minutes early or late. Their instructions are all about the rules for protecting the house and making it easier for them to turn over, instead of "your" comfort and enjoyment. Generally, the house is old, furnishings old, the place could really use some true TLC.
