Summary: First, the good: The hotel building is quite lovely and the staff are friendly and professional. My room was very well-kept and pleasant enough. But now, the not-so-good: First the lights work with a series of 'master switches' that are indistinguishable from the ordinary switches. Before you turn on the bedroom light, you have to find the master for that switch, which can be tough when you've just arrived and it's pitch black. I never did find the master for the writing desk where the all-important coffee-maker lay. I had to lift it off the desk and put it on the floor across the room to plug it in. On top of that, the shower (there's no bath) drained way too slowly. It took less than 15 minutes for the water to rise past my ankles and soon after, I had to stop showering because I feared the rising water would flood the bathroom. Now, as to the breakfast . . . there was no breakfast. This possibility never dawned on me , as the room cost nearly $200 and, for that price, they could at least put out some muffins. The best thing about the Andover Inn: It's a very short walk to the Addison Gallery, which is free, and has beautiful paintings by some of the greatest American artists of the 20th century -- Homer, Eakins, Hopper and many more. The neighborhood is also gorgeous.
