Positive: The hotel, whilst promising five star treatment and indeed its position and the architecture, ticking all the right boxes, fell short on first inspection. We booked in for four days in early May 2025 and after travelling for more than seven hours arrived at the hotel only to find that I had to park several yards from reception and at the other side of a locked gate. Travelling through the gate and walking up some steps to reception I was greeted by two staff. They were aware of my booking but seemed untrained as the procedure took a very long time before we were handed the keys. We were informed that we would have to pay in advance, something that we’ve never done before, and literally had to sign in on a pad. They naturally took the details from our passport but I suspect some training was taking place because the young lady had to be instructed every step of the way. It seems to me, even at the beginning of the season, that any training necessary would be given in house and not practised on arriving guests. Surprisingly, we were asked whether we would like to pay for in-house services bars, et cetera by the room number or by cash. Given that the manager requested us to pay in advance for the room, something that I am not usually requested to do, under the circumstances, we informed him we would pay in cash, just in case he thought we’d be the type who runs off without paying. We were given, after asking, a guide to this extensive property which had little clarity. The buffet breakfast in the morning proved something of a challenge when after greeting and noting our room number, the manageress left us to our own devices. The room was everything we could’ve wished for the bathroom, especially beautiful, however despite the television having countless radio and TV programs, non-were in English, in fact there was no reception at all even from YouTube.
