Positive: The Tithe Barn in Cockermouth is genuinely one of the best value stays we’ve found in the Lake District. We stayed three nights in the Deluxe King room at £117 a night, and for the quality of the room and bathroom, that’s excellent value. The bathroom alone was huge, with a shower that had properly strong water pressure — something that’s rarer than it should be at this price point. The whole building is beautifully done, and it’s consistent throughout — from the moment you step into the hallway (which genuinely smells amazing) right through to the room itself, everything feels considered and spotlessly clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. The only thing we’d flag is the TV, which felt a little small for the room. Check-in is self-service via a smart lock, and it was genuinely easy — no faff, no waiting around. Despite there being no staff on-site, our room was still cleaned daily, and the building never felt busy or crowded during our stay, which added to how relaxed the whole visit felt. Parking was included, and check-in/check-out times (3pm/10am) were clear and straightforward. We’d return without hesitation, especially given how well-placed Cockermouth is for exploring both Keswick and Buttermere.
